History

Our family has been making and selling gelato and other frozen dessert products since 1948. Our made-from-scratch recipes are among the best in the world and have been handed down from father to son for generations.

The recipe was invented by Ivan Gherardini's great uncle. Back then, the gelato was sold by motor scooter only to close family and friends. In 1969, Ivan's uncle opened Bambi Gelateria in Pistoia in Tuscany, Italy. Pistoia is a small city about thirty five miles from Florence. The store sold Italian ice cream and homemade cones. Here, Ivan developed a new vision for the family business involving licensing and production in restaurants and cafés. He began teaching other people about making the gelato and flavors. After some time, he saw the window of opportunity to bring his authentic Italian ice cream to the United States. It's been over thirty years and the new Gherardini generation still owns and operates the family store in Pistoia today.
